SPYM's
Reproductive Health Programmes, works to increase community
access to appropriate reproductive health care services and
tries to improve the quality of reproductive health services
through training and create demand for quality services by
developing positive community behaviour about reproductive
health care. SPYM ensures that projects are sensitive to local
beliefs and can be sustained in the long term.
SPYM's
attempt is to:
Raise
age of marriage through skill building process of adolescents
and
Family
Life Education(FLE)
"Due
to the early age of marriage, adolescent girls become pregnant
every year. Pregnancies at this age are risky for both mother
and unborn child. To bring down the incidence of adolescent
pregnancies, both adolescent boys and girls are imparted
Family Life Education. The topics included under FLE are:
planning
for one's future
the
importance of education
gender
roles and responsibilities
puberty
reproductive
anatomy and physiology
personal
hygiene
adolescent
nutritional needs
planning
for one's family
conception
and contraception and HIV/AIDS.
Parents
are involved in some of the sessions to encourage Positive
Parent-Child communication. Newly married couples are encouraged
to delay their first birth and provided with counseling
and contraceptive services. The FLE program is creating
a demand for reproductive health services and has led to
positive RH behaviors in marriage
