SPYM's
significant contributions made in the areas of health and
development earned it the prestigious National Youth Award
in the year 1990, given by the Prime Minister of India.
Our
health and development work stretches over 22 regional branches.
Ranging from supporting micro-credit savings schemes for small
groups of women in the Mewat Area Development Project, to
long-term support for the HIV/AIDS patients to help them rebuild
their lives.
SPYM's
many achievements during the year are due to our partners
in development, and to the people who make up SPYM. our committed
staff everywhere, the volunteers who give so much of their
time and the donors who are generous enough to make field
visits.
What
they do makes the difference. Turning a passion for justice
into effective action. SPYM is justified by the impact it
makes. We are accountable to both the donors/funding agencies
and to the people we assist, to make sure that the money is
used well. Our aim is to maximize the quality and effectiveness
of our work.
SPYM
has its specific aims: building the confidence and skills
of marginalized communities, promoting gender justice, influencing
public and political attitudes towards the recurring problems
and addressing complex links between ignorance, unawareness
and diseases such as HIV/ AIDS.
The
growing menace of HIV/AIDS all over the world has created
especially difficult and frustrating circumstances in which
to provide assistance to those who need it most becomes a
primary concern. Our programs/project addresses the acute
needs of truckers whose normal lives are disrupted by their
profession and eventually resulting in having inflicted with
STD/ HIV/AIDS due to unprotected sex on highways.
There
is always room for improvement in SPYM's work and there is
always scope for innovation.
It
is a development oriented non-profitable agency, working towards
the prevention of drug abuse & STD/HIV/AIDS, reproductive
health and developmental issues. As SPYM believes that social
problems can be tackled best through the concerted efforts
on the part of the people themselves, it works in partnership
with local communities.
Administration,
Manpower and Infrastructure
SPYM
has a national executive committee of twelve members with
Dr. Zeenat as its Chairperson. The members are elected by
its General Body. The Executive Director Dr. Rajesh Kumar
runs the administration. He is its Chief Executive, and the

Its accounts are audited yearly by qualified Chartered Accountants.
It
has professionals such as doctors, counselors, paramedical
staff, agriculture scientists etc., besides secretarial staff
at its headquarters in Delhi. Its main branches also have
similar organizational structure and manpower. All SPYM branches
are independently registered with their State Govts.
