Alliances and Partnerships

SPYM firmly believes that there is strength in numbers. We realize that our objectives will be almost impossible to accomplish without mutually utilizing the resources of other organizations and vice versa.

Following is a partial list of alliances that SPYM has formed over the years. We continue to build meaningful and mutually productive alliances and if your organization sees any potential in such an arrangement, we encourage you to contact us.

FINGODAP (Federation of Indian NGOs for Drug Abuse Prevention)

In 1992-93 SPYM took the initiative of writing letters to various NGOs explaining the necessity for networking and importance of developing linkages in India at local, regional, national and international levels for joint action to work effectively in the area of drug demand reduction.

Towards this direction, SPYM has brought together more than 400 NGOs at the national level in India for a joint effort to promote and strengthen the voluntary action for drug abuse prevention.

This apex body of more than 400 NGOs is known as Federation of Indian NGOs for Drug Abuse Prevention (FINGODAP).

SPYM is the elected secretary of FINGODAP and it also serves as its secretariat. For this network SPYM is working to co-ordinate NGOs concerns and problems with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and with allied Ministries of Govt. of India in order to promote the cooperation and collaboration between governmental organisations and non-governmental organisations at state, regional, national and international levels.

This has helped the organisation in networking with the different State Governments and concerned Central Ministries of the Government of India. This has also been able to give the organisation an effective voice for the purposes of advocacy on various issues pertaining to drug abuse prevention.

The common thread connecting all of the SPYM's work is the value placed on developing individuals/organizations so that they can work together towards a more just society.

The organization's programme has been premised on building a network across many different kinds of organizations, institutions, communities where activists could share their experiences, develop-relationships and shape a vision not bound by the limitations of any one form of organizing.

SPYM has been providing placements for social work students and scholars at the post graduate and doctoral levels, both from within and outside the country. The students gain first hand experience in working with individuals, groups and communities in areas as specified above.
